WIP sketch of Julian Blackthorn from The Dark Artifices Series that... doesn't exist yet! With what little info available, I imagine him being as adept at wielding a paintbrush as well as a seraph blade. Will be coloured soon!

Sketch: Ookami The DJ

Since the last upload was a RE upload, here's a new one! A semi-realistic pen sketch of the male protagonist in "The Refuge" named "Ookami". He's popped up many times before, and this is certainly not the last time you'll see him. At least this time Alex isn't teasing him!

I'd like to do a series of these, I think! It'd be fun. 

Tell me, how old do you think he looks here? I'm curious.

Winning Love by Daylight

The two leading characters of "The Refuge" dressed as Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask. While I think I'll take another pass on the idea, I still liked this sketch, and I didn't want to just post it without some colour!

Fan Comic: City of Glass Page 1

The line art for the first page of a fan comic I started, oh... Hmm... way too long ago now -earlier in the year I think? January? A 3 page interlude of a scene that doesn't even occur (to my knowledge anyway) in Cassandra Clare's third novel "City of Glass." I was inspired and couldn't resist doing this scene inspired by the events leading up to it in the book!

Some of the art looks dated to my eyes, but I look forward to finishing this up soon. When I do, I'll post the excerpt for a bit of context. Until then, enjoy!

Almost forgot to post this! 
To end the anticipation of City of Lost Souls, I collaborated with fellow artist Street Angel on this final poster image!

It was supposed to have been done in time to be released with the book, but we didn't quite make it. Instead, she was able to print it out and get a copy signed by Cassandra Clare herself at her recent UK tour! The signed poster will be put on auction soon and the money made will be given to the "Reading is Fundamental" charity. 

Street Angel and I worked on this image together, but to be more specific as to who did what, here is a breakdown, starting from left to right:

• Isabelle, Simon- Sketched, inked, and coloured by me
• Clary- Sketched, inked, coloured by Street Angel
• Jace- Sketch, inked, and coloured by me
• Magnus- Sketched, inked, coloured by Street Angel
• Alec- Sketched, inked, coloured by Street Angel
• Background was composited both by me and Street Angel. She also handled the text! 

 Once the auction is completed, we'll allow ourselves to post the full, unwatermaked version online- gotta give folks incentive to bid, yes?

Things in Motion, projects and more!

I've got a lot of bits and bobs in motion here! Many I hope to add to my portfolio page soon.

Here's a cropping from a commission in progress:

It's much further along, and into the detailing stages now. Colours adjusted, etc. The bunker background was giving me the most issue, but I've settled on something I like!


Then I had this CRAZY IDEA for a group style commission. The concept is simple: create a scene, and perhaps define one or two solidified characters within it, then stage the rest as sketch 'dummies' and offer up those different spots for sale!

This is an idea I had purely for fun.
Am I a bit of a masochist? Absolutely. But how can I expect to learn if I don't challenge myself!
My actors are all solidified and I'll be streaming segments of this piece periodically! and (hopefully) have it complete in time for Christmas!

Both "Young" and "Older" as he will appear in The Refuge (eventually) Older Ookami is such an interesting guy to me, and I'm sad that gesture of him pulling off his tie got cut off by the scanner. I'll have to draw that separately as I like how that turned out.
Fun fact: Ookami doesn't really smoke anymore. I tried it on the character for a while, but decided it was too Cliche'.

and finally, I'm in the process of assisting my wife in a book project! Some business for a local woman (very nice) that she'd like to have for her newphews in time for Christmas.

Not a big production or anything, but also a fun set of challenges. I'm assisting Iron-Gibbet style. I.E. helping with layout/composition/rough sketching. I've never drawn tractors before today!
I'll post what I can when I'm able.

Ah, speaking of which, three more sketches to go! Back to work!

It's kinda nice to just let loose and draw as it appears sometimes. It's easy to get caught up in how busy things are and forget that. As an artist of any means (writing, sculpting, music, etc) if it starts to feel like work, it's worth stepping back and going back to the basics of what made you fall in love with your trade in the first place! 

While I haven't seen it (recently, I know the movie by heart!), the rerelease of The Lion King kickstarted that frame of mind. A movie I loved (still do) and endless hours practicing characters I could never seem to get right!

Now it all seems so simple.

So It's been a while since I've updated! embarassing, actually.
Well, befor I get into things about stuff (and stuff about things), I'll just re-begin things with this piece I posted everywhere else but here. ;)

Oh Alistair, there was a reason you were a lady-only romance option. That's just uncomfortable. :C

Stark and a Gollum

I felt like drawing Farscape's Stark! I didn't think I'd like him as much as I do.
It's the crazy, I think. I'll throw some colour on this soon.

My wife said "Draw Claudia [our roomate's cat] as a gollum!" so I said "....okay"
Naturally, I had to have both anthro and 'cat-lump' versions.

Space Invaders and Prose

A Krogan enjoys one of the greatest games Earth has to offer.
Actually, this piece, and "Space Chips" were submitted to the San Diego Comic Con Bioware Fan Art showcase, in colour of course. I'd appreciate it if folks let me know if they saw them about!

Also, here's a bit of rejected writing from something I've been working on for quite some time, and going:

He was currently engrossed in the game he was playing, brow furrowed in concentration as the pale white robed figure of his avatar perched precariously on the edge of a rooftop.

“I’ve done this before.” He said.

“Famous last words.”

“Shut up.” Dr. Anders smiled crookedly.

The figure on the TV dived awkwardly off the rooftop, clumsily lashing a blade out before his body landed on the dirt below. The game screen shuddered and displayed a game over message. Anders swore.
